The Portrait of America competition is an open call to all photographers — professional or emerging — using traditional, digital or mobile devices.
Entries are only accepted through our online submission system. No other forms of submission will be accepted.
- Portraits must have been taken after January 1, 2018 and portray subjects living in the United States.
- Portraits may be of individuals and groups.
SUBMISSION FEES
Early Bird Submission Fees* are as follows:
- Single image: $20
- Up to 3 images: $50
- Up to 5 images: $70
- Up to 10 images: $130
- Up to 20 images: $200
There is no limit to the number of images you can submit.
*NOTE: Fees will go up after August 31, 2019
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Please take a little time to prepare your files before you begin the submission process.
Files must meet the following specifications:
- RGB or Grayscale profile
- JPEG or PNG format
- Resolution of 72 dpi
- Images should be 1500 pixels on the longest side
- Digital file should not exceed 4 MB
- Layers must be flattened
NAMING CONVENTIONS FOR IMAGES
Please label images with your last name, then your first name, then by the title of the image, separated by underscores:
LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_TITLE_OF_IMAGE.JPG
Example: Avedon_Richard_American_Hero.jpg
Please do not include characters such as #, $, &, periods or other similar characters as part of the file name.
STATEMENT
You will have the ability to submit a short statement for each photograph or series of photos. Statements must be under 500 words.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for this competition, photographers:
- Must submit their own original work
- Must be 18 years or older
Entries that do not meet guidelines will not be considered.
